How the conversion works
Your hourly equivalent equals your annual salary divided by the hours you actually work in a year. A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so every $10,000 of salary is worth about $4.81 an hour. If you regularly work 45 or 50 hours a week on a salary, your real hourly rate is lower — change the hours field to see it.
These figures are gross pay. Federal income tax, Social Security (6.2%), Medicare (1.45%) and state and local taxes come out before you are paid. A single filer earning $52,000 keeps between 77% and 85% of it in 2026, depending on the state. Use the button above or pick your state below to see your exact take-home pay with 2026 tax rates.
Part-time, overtime and unpaid time off
For part-time work, enter your usual weekly hours. For unpaid leave or seasonal work, reduce the paid weeks per year. Overtime is not included in a salary conversion; hourly workers who earn overtime can add it in any state paycheck calculator, which pays overtime hours at 1.5× the regular rate.
